Dental Hygienist – Wellington

Maintaining optimum health of your teeth and gums is a key component of your long-term dental care. At Smile Design we provide a comprehensive dental hygiene service, designed to complement and support your regular ‘at home’ cleaning programme.

We offer standard dental hygiene treatments as well as more advanced care for the management of advanced gum disease. For those seeking pain management, we can provide conscious sedation or a local anaesthetic prior to treatment.

Our Dental Hygiene Services

On your first visit with one of our dental hygienists, we will undertake an initial oral health assessment to get an accurate understanding of your current oral health and identify any key issues. During your first visit may also take some supporting x-rays.

Once the initial assessment is complete, our focus is on developing a personalised care and treatment plan. This often includes a 6-monthly dental / hygiene clean to remove the build-up of plaque and tartar. Plus, any guidance on your at-home cleaning routine.

Maintaining good oral hygiene is key to managing your long-term dental and gum health.

Overview of Our Approach

An Initial Oral Assessment

This initial 1-hour session helps us assess the current status of your teeth and gums, plus we undertake screening for oral cancers and any gum irregularities.

Customised Care Plan

The hygienist will talk to you about your options and a treatment plan, based on your needs. Sometimes, more than one appointment may be required to treat your gums.

Dental Hygienist Treatments

Your initial treatment includes the removal of existing plaque and tartar. Following this, we schedule regular, 3 or 6-monthly appointments, for teeth scaling and cleaning.

Your At Home Cleaning Routine

Your daily at home routine is key to maintaining good oral health. We will advise you on good cleaning techniques, along with your cleaning aids, e.g. toothbrush, floss, toothpaste.
